January was colder than usual with the Hong Kong Observatory recording a mean temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees below normal.
It was also wetter and gloomier, with total monthly rainfall of 42.1mm, 17.4mm above normal.
The total duration of bright sunshine was 86 hours, 40% below normal.
An intense winter monsoon reached the south China coast and brought the temperature to a minimum of 7.4 degrees on January 25, the lowest during the Lunar New Year holiday since 1996.
