Chief Executive Carrie Lam arrived in Beijing today to commence her four-day visit.
She met young participants of the Beijing Palace Museum Conservation Internship Programme at the Palace Museum Learning Centre.
As part of the activities to celebrate the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s 20th anniversary, 15 young people each from Hong Kong and Guangdong are taking part in the internship programme.
The programme teaches them about conservation of cultural heritage, museum management, and enhances exchanges between youngsters from both places through six weeks of internship and cultural activities.
Mrs Lam then visited "Dialogue: The Forbidden City & the Maritime Silk Road" exhibition at the Palace Museum, which has more than 100 artefacts on display.
She wrapped up the first day of her visit with a dinner with Palace Museum Director Dr Shan Jixiang and the interns.
Mrs Lam thanked the Palace Museum for its staunch support for the Hong Kong Palace Museum project and its collaboration with the Leisure & Cultural Services Department in recent years to hold large-scale exhibitions.
The exhibitions enabled Hong Kong people to appreciate the valuable collection of the Palace Museum and its fascinating history, she added.
