The Hospital Authority will work with various sectors to tackle the surge in demand for public hospital services during the summer peak influenza season.
Speaking to the media before today’s Executive Council meeting, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said geriatricians in public hospitals will work with accident and emergency services doctors to make diagnoses and arrange treatment for patients as soon as possible.
The authority will invite Department of Health doctors to help in out-patient clinics outside their working hours and explore the possibility of transferring some patients to private hospitals.
Mrs Lam said the Government will provide sufficient resources to the authority.
She hopes the alleviation measures shorten waiting times for emergency services and expedite the turnover of public hospital beds.
