Some lawmakers hurt goodwill

October 14, 2016

In response to individual Legislative Council members-elect using some wordings to insult China during oath-taking, Chief Executive CY Leung says such act seriously affected the goodwill between Hong Kong citizens and Mainlanders.

He also believed many Hong Kong people feel angry and disappointed towards the behaviour.

Speaking to reporters at the airport today, Mr Leung said the legislators should take the oath as required by the Basic Law Article 104, which is a solemn ceremony.

Legislators have to read the oath solemnly to express their commitment, which is to uphold the Basic Law and pledge allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, as cited in the oath, he added.
