The Electoral Affairs Commission today released the final Guidelines on Election-related Activities in respect of the Election Committee Subsector Elections.
The commission has taken into consideration the views received during a 30-day public consultation exercise and reflected them in the updated guidelines.
Those who intend to stand for election are urged to carefully read the guidelines and electoral legislation, and strictly abide by them.
Regarding the need to comply with the legal requirements for publishing election advertisements on the Internet, the commission said the definition of election advertisement is stipulated in the law and the present statutory definition is very wide.
It is the commission’s duty to issue guidelines according to the law to remind the public of the legal provisions and the consequences of any breach, it added.
For polling hours, the commission said it would not be appropriate to change it before sufficient discussion and consultation. Polling hours for elections scheduled for December will be based on the established arrangement.
