Wang Chau target unchanged

September 18, 2016

At the Task Force meeting on Wang Chau and Queen's Hill chaired by the Chief Executive, the public housing supply target for Wang Chau remained at 17,000 units.

The Chief Executive's Office issued the statement today in response to media enquiries, saying increasing land and housing supply has always been the current-term Government's top policy priority, with housing supplies hitting record highs over the past four years.

The statement said large-scale development projects usually involve multiple Government departments such as planning, infrastructure, traffic and environmental protection.

High-level, cross-bureau co-ordination and facilitation is necessary to increase land and housing supply as quickly as possible.

It said the Chief Executive has chaired inter-departmental meetings almost every week to take forward high-level co-ordination work for 20 to 30 large-scale, medium-to-long-term land development projects since he assumed office.

These development projects, which include Wang Chau and Queen’s Hill, were highlighted in the Policy Address every year.

The Chief Executive and the Government will not lose any opportunity to increase land supply, including using brownfield sites for housing, it added.
