Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited Hanoi today to meet with officials of the Vietnamese Government, toured the Vietnam National University and addressed a reception of a concert.

Mrs Lam called on Minister of Industry & Trade Tran Tuan Anh, updating him on Hong Kong’s economic developments and its unique advantage as the gateway to Mainland China for investors from the region, including those from Vietnam.

Noting the future Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement would provide more business opportunities to both Hong Kong and Vietnam, she looked forward to Vietnam’s continuous support in reaching a timely conclusion of the agreement.

She also attended a lunch hosted by Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong and met with Culture, Sports & Tourism Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien.

She then called on Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to thank the Vietnamese Government for its support of the Free Trade Agreement negotiation and discussed with him the enormous co-operation opportunities for Hong Kong and ASEAN countries associated with the agreement and the Belt & Road initiative.

Mrs Lam also visited the Vietnam National University, which is one of the two national universities and the largest comprehensive higher education and research centre in the country.

She then spoke at a reception of an Asian Youth Orchestra concert at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Based in Hong Kong, the orchestra meets in Hong Kong every summer for a three-week rehearsal camp before it starts a concert tour across Asia.
