Information session:  Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung (second left) visits the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer.

Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung visited the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer today to inspect its work and meet its staff.

It provides information technology and cybersecurity services and support within the Government, and implements IT policies, strategies, programmes and measures to sustain Hong Kong's position as Asia's leading digital city.

Mr Cheung met Government Chief Information Officer Allen Yeung and directorate staff, and then visited the Digital Inclusion Division where he was briefed on its work in the Internet Learning Support Programme, web accessibility and the adoption of IT to support elderly and underprivileged groups.

He saw how the Industry Facilitation Division aids the formulation of strategies and initiatives to develop Hong Kong into a smart city and a data centre hub, promotes development of the IT industry, and oversees collaboration programmes with Mainland and overseas authorities.

Mr Cheung then visited the Governance & Resources Division, which helps Government bureaus and departments in shaping and delivering IT-enabled business systems that support their policy goals, as well as monitoring government IT projects.

He then toured the Central Computer Centre that provides data centre services to various bureaus and departments, hosts services for the Government's central IT infrastructure and systems, and disaster recovery facilities for departmental mission-critical systems.

Mr Cheung also had a tea gathering with the office's staff and praised them for their work.
