SJ calls for mutual respect

June 17, 2016

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen says Hong Kong and the Mainland must respect each other in order to implement "one country, two systems".

Speaking today on claims made by bookseller Lam Wing-kee yesterday, Mr Yuen said if one is inside the Mainland's jurisdiction then he is expected to comply with, and is subject to, Mainland law.

If one is in Hong Kong, they are entitled to all the legal protections that are conferred by Hong Kong laws, including those under the Basic Law and the Bill of Rights ordinance.

The Police are trying to contact Mr Lam to gather more information before deciding on what can be done, as some of the information was only revealed by Mr Lam during a press conference last night.

Mr Yuen also said only Hong Kong law enforcement agencies have the authority to enforce laws in Hong Kong. He said the Government will not allow or tolerate other law enforcement agencies to enforce laws in Hong Kong.
