The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government hosted a welcome banquet in honour of National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang at the Convention & Exhibition Centre tonight.
More than 400 guests attended, including Principal Officials, Executive Council Non-official Members, Legislative Council Members, local dignitaries, consuls-general and representatives from various sectors of the community.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Zhang noted that a small group of people in Hong Kong have tried to separate the Special Administrative Region from the Mainland under the name of "localism".
He said the rule of law is Hong Kong's core value and any unlawful actions should not be tolerated.
Mr Zhang assured that the Central Government will uphold the “one country, two systems” principle, adding that it is willing to listen to views from different people in Hong Kong to achieve consensus for the city's betterment.
He added that the Central Government will continue to support Hong Kong in building on its strengths and exploring new advantages.
