Sichuan investment:  Chief Secretary Carrie Lam inspects a Hong Kong development project in Chengdu.

Hong Kong and Sichuan have signed an agreement to determine the use of residual funds in support of earthquake reconstruction work in the province.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam and Sichuan Governor Yin Li today witnessed the signing of the Agreement on the Use of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Residual Fund in Support of Reconstruction in Sichuan Earthquake Stricken Areas.

Speaking to reporters today Mrs Lam said the residual fund, capped at RMB190 million, will be used for rehabilitating the Wolong Nature Reserve’s ecosystem, enhancing the China Research & Conservation Centre for the Giant Panda, and building Wolong’s ecotourism capacity.

Hong Kong devoted $10 billion to support 190 reconstruction projects after the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008.

All but two reconstruction projects have been completed, and the two remaining road projects are expected to be done by year's-end.

Mrs Lam later visited two Hong Kong developments in Chengdu and met with Hong Kong people and entrepreneurs working in Sichuan.
