School support:  Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah (centre) meets Service Corps Programme volunteers in Shaoguan.

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah visited Shaoguan today to give encouragement to Hong Kong volunteers providing teaching support in the northern Guangdong city under the Home Affairs Bureau's Service Corps Programme.

Mr Lau met with four programme delegates serving in the Huaping Experimental School and Lishi Town Centre Primary School.

He toured their quarters and attended their lessons. He also had lunch with them to learn more about their lives and voluntary work.

The four delegates have adapted to their work and lives in the city after being there for more than two months.

Commending them on their commitment, he urged them to face challenges with a positive attitude and to treasure this learning opportunity.

Mr Lau also called on Shaoguan Mayor Luo Weifeng who thanked the volunteers for their assistance and praised them for their enthusiasm.

Established in 2011 to promote youth development and volunteerism, the Service Corps Programme has been extended to Phase VI, recruiting over 100 young people to serve on the Mainland.
