Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says calls for Hong Kong's independence contravene the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law and should be condemned.
Mrs Lam told reporters today that Hong Kong has always been an inseparable part of the People's Republic of China and that "one country, two systems" is a constitutional requirement.
She added that advocating the city's independence ignores the interests of seven million people in Hong Kong and urged society to realise that any promotion of independence is wrong.
