Livelihood items top priority: CE

March 15, 2016

Chief Executive CY Leung says the Government is considering reprioritising livelihood items to be scrutinised by the Legislative Council as there are only 13 weeks left in the current LegCo term.

Speaking ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung noted that about half of the time left will be spent on scrutinising the Budget, leaving only seven weeks to handle 13 bills and about 50 funding requests, many of which are livelihood-related.

He said key items waiting to be passed include the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill which grants tax cuts and waivers; the $12.8 billion Capital Works Reserve Fund for creating projects that can create 13,000 jobs; and hospital development projects.

Mr Leung added that the Government will discuss with LegCo reprioritising the important and livelihood-related items and urged lawmakers to approve them as soon as possible in the public's best interest.
