CS urges rail funding approval

January 31, 2016

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has urged lawmakers, particularly the pan-democrats, to approve extra funding for constructing the Express Rail Link’s Hong Kong section soon or society will face serious consequences.

Mrs Lam told reporters today that time is running out and she hoped the Legislative Council’s Public Works subcommittee could endorse the funding request at its Tuesday meeting so that it could be submitted to the Finance Committee.

She expressed concern over the sluggish scrutiny of public works projects this legislative year, noting that the projects would benefit society when completed.

On Finance Committee chairman Chan Kin-por’s decision to cut short filibustering during yesterday’s meeting on funding for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Mrs Lam said he had done his utmost to balance legislators’ different requests.
