Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung visited the Buildings Department today, to meet its staff and learn about the department’s operation.

Meeting Director of Buildings Hui Siu-wai and directorate staff, Mr Cheung noted the department's commitment to promoting building safety, setting and enforcing standards for private buildings, and improving building development quality.

He visited the New Buildings Division Hong Kong West Section, which exercises overall control of private building developments in Central & Western District, Southern District and the West Kowloon Cultural District. He learned the section examines and approves building plans, to ensure private building construction works comply with Buildings Ordinance standards.

At the Building Information Centre, Mr Cheung saw the inspection and copying services for the latest approved plans and related documents of existing completed private buildings in Hong Kong.

He also met staff from the Existing Buildings Division Section B, and had a tea gathering with staff representatives.
