No ferry cover-up: SJ

September 29, 2015

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen says the Government cannot release the complete Lamma ferry tragedy investigation report due to legal constraints.

Speaking to reporters today, Mr Yuen said the Government must consider criminal proceedings, personal privacy and internal disciplinary actions, so a portion of the report cannot be released. He said this point was made clear before the report's release.

He said there is no cover-up and if the families of the victims feel differently they can make a complaint through the legal process.

The Government will meet with the families tomorrow night, and Director of Public Prosecutions Keith Yeung will explain the prosecution progress.

The Senior Counsel hired on the families’ request to review the prosecution progress will also attend.
