CS visits Wong Tai Sin

July 30, 2015

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited Wong Tai Sin today to get an update on the district's affairs.

First, she met the Wong Tai Sin District Council and noted their views on local issues and livelihood matters, including housing, healthcare services, community facilities and planning, drinking water quality, transportation and barrier-free facilities.

Mrs Lam was then briefed by the Wong Tai Sin Youth Development Network at Tung Tau Community Centre on youth matters.

The network enhances young people's knowledge of the community's history, economic development and cultural features via three perspectives, namely understanding, serving and contributing to the community.

Mrs Lam said she was pleased that outstanding youths and students in the district have been enthusiastic in organising various volunteering services and taking part in community activities, demonstrating the popularity of such activities among young people.

Later she chatted with residents participating in the community cultural and recreational activities being held in the Tung Tau Community Centre.

The Wong Tai Sin District Arts Council, which organised the event, is committed to promoting cultural and recreational activities in the community, enhancing residents' interest and knowledge in culture and the arts, and encouraging residents to be involved in community activities.

Mrs Lam thanked the council for organising cultural and recreational activities in the community, and providing a platform for residents, organisations and schools in the district to unleash their arts potential.

Concluding the visit, Mrs Lam went to the Salvation Army Chuk Yuen Integrated Service at Chuk Yuen Estate Community Centre.

She inspected the centre's services for the elderly and families, and talked to young service users.

She commended the centre for its devotion in helping young people face the challenges on the path of growth and in daily life through community support services.
