July 28, 2015

Giant panda Jia Jia, who resides at Ocean Park in Hong Kong, will turn 37 years young in August, the equivalent of 111 human years.

She is now the holder of two Guinness World Records, for the oldest panda ever in captivity and the oldest panda living in captivity.

Speaking at the the birthday party and longevity record-breaking celebration, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam thanked the Sichuan Wolong National Nature Reserve and Ocean Park staff for taking such good care of the four giant pandas in Hong Kong.

Ms Lam noted she was Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs in 2007, and was responsible for the arrival of giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le.

The Central People's Government presented the pair in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
