Chief Executive CY Leung said the People’s Liberation Army’s Hong Kong Garrison’s first public drill showed the transparency of the garrison’s works.
The garrison carried out a joint military exercise last Saturday at Tsing Shan Firing Range, to simulate defending Hong Kong from terrorist attacks.
Mr Leung said the drill helped the public understand the garrison’s defence duties in Hong Kong.
On President Xi Jinping shaking hands with Financial Secretary John Tsang during the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank meeting in Beijing last week, Mr Leung said the President is supportive of Hong Kong.
He said it is usual practice for the President to shake hands with Hong Kong officials at events attended by international representatives, adding that such a gesture should not be regarded as having any relation to the Chief Executive election.
