CE mourns Lu Ping

May 04, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung today expressed his sadness at the passing of Hong Kong & Macau Affairs Office former Director Lu Ping.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, the Chief Executive said Mr Lu had devoted great effort to helping the Central People's Government formulate the principles and policies under "One country, two systems" and had participated in the negotiations between China and the UK on Hong Kong's future, the formulation of the Basic Law, as well as the preparatory work on the establishment of the HKSAR.

In a statement, Mr Leung noted that: "Director Lu dedicated himself to ensuring Hong Kong's smooth transition and return to the Motherland. He worked relentlessly to maintain Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and was held in high regard by the people of Hong Kong. Director Lu left indelible footprints in the formulation and implementation of the principle of "One country, two systems" and he continued to care about and deeply loved Hong Kong even after his retirement.

The Chief Executive added that China's resumption of the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong under the principles of "One country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy was a milestone in the revitalisation of the Chinese nation and that no effort must be spared to move forward under "One country, two systems" to create a better future for Hong Kong.
