Rule of law respected

January 15, 2015

Most Hong Kong people comply with the law, Chief Executive CY Leung says.

Attending a question and answer session in the Legislative Council today, he said although the Occupy Central campaign was a blatant challenge to the rule of law, it showed that most people in Hong Kong respect the law, citing the court injunction proceedings that occurred during the protests.

Noting people enjoy freedom of speech, Mr Leung urged the community to express views in a lawful manner.

On youth participation in social issues, Mr Leung said he hopes to have more face-to-face conversations with young people from different backgrounds to garner their views.

He said young people are Hong Kong's future and their views on the city’s development should be considered.

The Government is working to increase youth participation in political development, housing, welfare and other policies, he added.
