The Basic Law requires all sectors to have balanced representation in an election, Chief Executive CY Leung has reiterated.
Briefing reporters before an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said the Government placed great importance on all sectors - including the grass roots and sports sectors.
It has implemented a number of measures targeting the grass roots and sports, including reinstating the Commission on Poverty, launching a poverty threshold, and plans to build the Kai Tak Sports City.
He noted that he attended two events organised by the sports and religious sectors, showing his appreciation for their efforts and contributions.
He added his previous comments had sparked controversy, but that he had meant no harm to the grass roots, sports and religious sectors.
