Gov't suggests protests move to parks

October 13, 2014

The Government today suggests Protesters can gather at Tamar Park, Central & Western District Promenade, Victoria Park’s Central Lawn and Mong Kok’s MacPherson Playground, the Government suggested in a statement issued today.

Relevant departments would assist as appropriate, it added.

Illegal occupation of roads should end to avoid prolonging the serious repercussions caused to people's daily lives and work.

The Central Government Offices’ East Wing forecourt is used mainly as a vehicular access and pick-up and drop-off area, the statement said. As such, the Government will not consider a request to open it to protesters as large congregations will seriously affect the offices' operation and pose safety risks.

The forecourt will continue to be used for public meetings and processions during specified hours in accordance with established procedures.
