'Occupy Central' must stop

October 02, 2014

The "Occupy Central" movement has taken up various districts on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon for five consecutive days, causing increasingly serious impacts on people's livelihood, the economy and even government operations, the Government said in a statement today.

Protestors have publicly claimed that they will escalate their actions to surround government premises including Police Headquarters, the Central Government Offices and the Chief Executive's Office. They have been gathering around these buildings and operations have already been affected.

To continue with its services to the general public, the CGO will need to be in operation as usual tomorrow, with about 3,000 officers trying to return to work.

If the siege continues and worsens, the access, normal operation and security of the above government offices will be seriously affected, eventually affecting social order and the provision of government services.

The Government hopes that the public will understand it has the responsibility to protect those offices so that they can maintain normal operation.

It appeals to people gathering outside Police Headquarters, CGO and CEO not to block access and to disperse peacefully as soon as possible.

Organisers of "Occupy Central" and other organisations involved should stop all occupation activities immediately, it said.
