Lawmakers urged to consider funding proposals

June 25, 2014

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says there are 76 projects awaiting funding approval from the legislature, and urged lawmakers to discharge their duties to avoid further delays.

Speaking to the media at the Legislative Council today, Mrs Lam said there are 35 works projects being held up, including land production for housing, the Queen Mary Hospital redevelopment and environmental facilities.

These projects will be delayed for at least six months if funding approval cannot be granted before the legislature’s summer recess.

Mrs Lam also said 41 non-works proposals are being affected, such as the one-month rent waiver for public housing tenants and the extra allowance for welfare recipients.

She said lawmakers should take full account of the community’s interest and try to consider, deliberate and approve these items as early as possible.
