Reform meeting 'meaningful': CS

March 18, 2014

The first breakfast meeting between legislators and Central Government Hong Kong liaison office officials to discuss constitutional reform was "meaningful", its host Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said, describing the atmosphere as good and casual.

Briefing reporters afterwards, Mrs Lam said legislators expressed their principles concerning constitutional development, and liaison office officials responded accordingly. No specific proposal was discussed.

The meeting aimed to enhance communication between the two parties, she said, as both are important stakeholders and have a role in constitutional development.

She also urged legislators to join a Shanghai visit in April, to meet senior Central Government officials to discuss constitutional reform.

Fourteen legislators from different political parties joined this morning's meeting, the first of four. So far, 57 legislators have expressed interest in joining.
