No added costs for 'HK: Our Home'

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing told lawmakers today the 'Hong Kong: Our Home' Campaign has not required any specific funds to be allocated for organising its events.
 
In response to a question tabled at the Legislative Council, Mr Tsang said the campaign provides a common platform for the Government and partner organisations sharing common goals to publicise events bearing the campaign theme.
 
He said the campaign disseminates positive messages, encourages care and mutual help, promotes environmental hygiene, and strengthens social cohesion through public participation.
 
Non-profit making activities which align with the campaign's themes and objectives will be considered for inclusion, depending also on their scale, creativity and level of public participation.
 
So far, most events included under the campaign platform have already been planned or are part of departments’ regular work, and as such require no additional expenditure.
 
The campaign’s launch ceremony on April 23 cost $800,000, covered by the existing resources of the Information Services Department, Radio Television Hong Kong, and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. The Government has not hired any company to conduct public relations or design work for the campaign.
 
The Hong Kong Positive Energy Day event on May 26 is being organised by the Agency for Volunteer Service, a non-government organisation, which will distribute 2,000 gift packs to needy families. Materials for the gift packs are procured by the agency through tender or sponsored by corporations, and do not involve any government expenditure.
