Commissioner for Transport Joseph Lai will become Permanent Secretary for Transport & Housing (Transport) on May 28, succeeding Francis Ho who will retire after 35 years of government service.
Mr Lai, 51, joined the Administrative Service in 1983 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A in 2009. He has served in various bureaus and departments.
Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue said Mr Lai is a veteran Administrative Officer with rich and extensive experience in public administration, and proven leadership and management skills.
"I have every confidence he will continue to serve the community with professionalism and dedication in his new capacity."
Meanwhile, Miss Yue thanked Mr Ho for his dedicated service.
"He has made exemplary contributions to the development of Hong Kong. Mr Ho played a pivotal role in taking forward a number of significant transport infrastructure projects, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link."
