Chief Executive Donald Tsang has thanked Chief Secretary Stephen Lam for his substantial contributions, after Mr Lam announced that he will leave the Government when his term ends in July.
Briefing the media today, the Chief Executive said Mr Lam had served the Government and the public for more than 30 years, and he had been a principal official for the past 10 years. He said Mr Lam had faced many challenges and showed his responsibility and perseverance.
Mr Tsang said Mr Lam had contributed to the implementation of universal suffrage, Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation and strengthening Hong Kong's relationship with Taiwan. He said Mr Lam is an outstanding public servant.
On another note, he said the public would not support delays in the work of the Legislative Council and said voting is the most suitable solution when lawmakers are dissatisfied.
