April 10, 2012
Premier Wen Jiabao has urged Chief Executive-elect CY Leung to unite Hong Kong to develop the economy and improve people’s livelihoods.

Mr Wen today presented an appointment letter to Mr Leung in Beijing as the Fourth Term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, starting on July 1.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Wen said Mr Leung carried a heavy responsibility as the next five years would be a crucial period for Hong Kong's economic development, improving people's livelihood and promoting democracy.

Mr Wen hoped Mr Leung and his team could unite different sectors of Hong Kong people, to form a common consensus to eliminate differences and conflicts. Mr Wen also emphasised the importance of running a graft-free government. He believed Mr Leung would uphold Hong Kong people's trust and the Central Government's expectations.

Mr Leung thanked Mr Wen for his encouragement, and said he deeply felt the heavy responsibility placed upon him. He said there would be opportunities as well as challenges in the next five years, and he would do his best to work together with different sectors to resolve Hong Kong's deep-rooted conflicts.

Speaking to the media afterwards, Mr Leung said he and his team would uphold the importance of a clean government, one of Hong Kong’s core values.
