CS: Budget meets public needs

February 01, 2012
Chief Secretary Stephen Lam said the Budget has across-the-board measures to meet community needs, and he called on lawmakers and the public to support it.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Lam said there will be significant increases in government spending in the social, education, labour, housing and medical-services areas.

The Government is also investing in Hong Kong's future by increasing spending on infrastructure, he said. Capital works expenditure will amount to $62 billion in the next financial year, creating job opportunities.

Through its prudent approach to public finance, the fiscal reserves will swell to about $650 billion, providing a broad and deep base for the next government to serve the Hong Kong people, he said.
