Policy address to deal with livelihood issues
October 08, 2011
Chief Executive Donald Tsang's upcoming policy address will focus on improving people’s livelihoods.
Speaking on a radio programme today, he said there are strong grievances caused by high property prices. He hopes the policy address to be delivered on October 8 will respond to people's needs.
He said housing policy should be sustainable and be able to stabilise property prices, but there are many factors for consideration, like land supply, reclamation and environmental concerns.
On retirement, Mr Tsang said Hong Kong residents have resisted compulsory saving because they fear their contributions may be misused. He said the Mandatory Provident Fund has helped to solve the issue, and the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme has provided a safety net for the needy.
On youth employment, Mr Tsang urged the younger generation to broaden their horizons and look for overseas job opportunities, and not limit themselves to Hong Kong.
