Police to launch transport-safety campaign

Police will launch a city-wide campaign to promote school transport safety from tomorrow to September 3 to tie in with the start of the new school year.

 

Officers will distribute leaflets to school bus and nanny van drivers, as well as teachers and parents, to remind them of transport safety of school children.

 

School bus drivers will be reminded to use low gear and ancillary braking system when driving along downhill slopes. Police will also give talks at schools.

 

According to Police statistics, in the first six months of this year, there were 22 traffic accidents involving school buses with 99 people injured. During the same period last year, there were 29 accidents and 86 injuries.
