2,000 arrested in tripartite blitz

Police have arrested 1,959 people in a joint operation with Guangdong and Macau authorities since August 21, seizing illicit goods worth more than $42 million.

 

Raiding 7,000 locations, including discos, game centres, massage parlours and residential units, officers shut down 80 vice establishments and 30 gambling dens.

 

A total of 1,130 men and 829 women were arrested for triad, vice, gambling and drug offences. Of them 572 were Mainlanders.

 

About $22 million worth of soccer and horseracing betting records were seized, along with 235,000 pornographic and pirated compact discs worth $7 million.
