62 civil celebrants of marriages appointed
*
Immigration Department

The Immigration Department has appointed 62 more civil celebrants of marriages, bringing the total number to 1,565 since the appointment of the first batch on April 21, 2006.

In announcing the appointments today, the department said the Civil Celebrants of Marriages Scheme has been well-received, as it has lifted restrictions on the time and place of marriage solemnisation.

By the end of September this year, about 59,200 couples have given their marriage notices through civil celebrants and about 56,800 couples have had their marriages celebrated by civil celebrants since April 2006.
