*
Hong Kong Police

Police issued 295 fixed-penalty tickets and 28 summonses to road users for violating traffic regulations during a crackdown on Hong Kong Island.

The blitz concluded at 7pm today, with 174 officers enforcing traffic laws at accident blackspots on the Island. They issued 180 fixed-penalty tickets for illegal parking and 115 for other traffic offences.

They also cautioned 14 pedestrians and 145 drivers for minor offences, and gave road-safety leaflets to road users.

Up to October, there were 2,603 traffic accidents involving casualties on Hong Kong Island. Of them, 55.2% were due to pedestrians' negligence.
