Narcotics group welcomes report findings

*

The Action Committee Against Narcotics has welcomed recommendations in the Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse report, saying it provides the right direction and strategy in tackling the problem.

Speaking after a special meeting to discuss the report and exchange views with task force chairman Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung, committee chairman Dr Choi Yuen-wan said today he is eager to implement the measures to tackle the problem effectively and forcefully.

He said committee members are pleased the recommendations deal with the problem in a holistic manner spanning all the five prongs of the anti-drug policy. They endorse the idea of drug tests, a well recognised strategy for treatment and rehabilitation, as a means to identify abusers so early assistance can be provided to them.

Dr Choi said members fully endorsed the proposal to enhance the probation system for young drug offenders, and are also pleased to learn the Police are enhancing collaboration with the Shenzhen authorities in tackling cross-boundary drug abuse.
