New ID prefix for foreign workers
*
Immigration Department

The Immigration Department will issue "WX" prefix identity card numbers for newly arrived foreign domestic helpers and workers under the Supplementary Labour Scheme once the "W" prefix numbers are finished, possibly in the last quarter.

The "WX" prefix identity card will continue to bear seven digits, including the last bracketed digit.

The department said today the change aims to make the "W" series number unique for all contract workers, whether foreign domestic helpers or workers under the Supplementary Labour Scheme.

Law enforcement agencies can readily identify the job status of these contract workers in routine checks while prospective employers can verify workers' employability before new jobs are offered.

Employers having difficulties in identifying whether the worker is lawfully employable can call hotline 2824 1551, or enquire by fax on 2824 1166 or by email.
