Newly renovated Lai King institution re-opens

Lai King Correctional Institution
Improved facility: The newly renovated Lai King Correctional Institution will offer 240 penal places for young female offenders.
*

The newly renovated Lai King Correctional Institution has come into operation, offering 240 penal places for young female offenders.

Under the institution regrouping project, it will accommodate all former inmates from Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution and Chi Lan Rehabilitation Centre. Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution will be renovated to function as a centre for male young offenders.

Correctional Services Department Senior Superintendent (Penal Administration) Dr Kwan Ming-tak said the reshuffle alleviated overcrowding in female institutions, and the conversion works paved the way for service improvements and facilities upgrades.

More facilities will be available for extended rehabilitation services, such as vocational training for food and beverage and hair-styling, and provide venues for matching programmes following the launch of Risk & Needs Assessment and Management Protocol for Offenders, Dr Kwan said.
