Commissioner of Police Dick Lee at good citizen awards ceremony

Good deed: Commissioner of Police Dick Lee commends Good Citizen of the Year Award winner Wong Chi-pang.

*

Forty people have been given Good Citizen Awards for helping Police nab 40 criminals for wounding, robbery, indecent assault, theft and burglary.

Commending their courage and bravery at a presentation ceremony today, Commissioner of Police Dick Lee said the recipients set good examples for other Hong Kong citizens.

Wong Chi-pang won the Good Citizen of the Year Award. He, together with Hui Ying-nam and Wan Kwok-wai helped the Police arrest a robber who attacked a Korean woman with an axe and tried to snatch her handbag containing $12,000 in Sheung Wan on June 6.

Mr Wong was given a plaque and $3,000. All other award winners received a certificate and $2,000.

Eleven-year-old Cheung Sek-wang was the youngest recipient this year. He helped net two men who stole a waist bag at a playground in Western on July 24. Having seen the incident, he called Police and helped search for the culprit.
