The Sha Tin Magistrates' Court has sentenced a Hong Kong resident who posed as another person to apply for the replacement of a lost identity card to four months in jail.
Li Luk-cheong, 44, pleaded guilty to a charge of giving false particulars to a registration officer.
On January 19, Li misrepresented himself as Kam Chun-keung, and applied for the replacement of Kam's identity card at a Registration of Persons Office. As the fingerprint record revealed he was not the rightful holder, Immigration investigators took over the case.
Li admitted he had accepted $500 from a middle man to apply for a replacement identity card for Kam. He was asked to memorise Kam's personal particulars for the application procedure.
Anyone who gives false particulars to a registration officer is liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and two years' jail.
