A former Eastern District Councillor and his wife have been convicted at Eastern Magistracy of committing voting offences at the 2003 Eastern District Council Election.
They lied about their principal residential address when filling voter registration forms.
Choi Sai-chuen, 56, a former Eastern District Councillor, and his wife, Wong Sau-po, 49, were each found guilty of one count of engaging in corrupt conduct at an election.
Magistrate Eddie Yip adjourned sentencing to June 22. Choi was remanded in custody while Wong was granted $100,000 bail.
The court heard that in 1993, Choi and Wong purchased a flat on Tai Hang Road in the Tai Hang Constituency of Wan Chai District, and had all along resided at the premises.
In July 14, 2003, Choi and Wong each submitted a voter registration form stating that their address was a commercial unit in King's Road, North Point, thereby enabling them to vote in the Fort Street Constituency.
They cast their votes on polling day, November 23, 2003.
When interviewed by Independent Commission Against Corruption officers, Choi and Wong falsely represented they had lived in the commercial unit six months prior to the election.
