Robert Tang named Justice of Appeal

The Judiciary today announced the appointment of Justice Robert Ching Tang, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, with effect from January 3.

 

Justice Tang was born in Shanghai in 1947. After obtaining a law degree from Birmingham University in 1969, he was called to the Bar of Gray's Inn in England in 1969, to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1970, to the Bar of Victoria in Australia in 1984, to the Bar of the State of New York in 1986 and was admitted as Barrister in Singapore in 1992.

 

He was in private practice from 1970 and was appointed as Queen's Counsel in 1986. He served as Deputy District Judge in 1982 and Deputy Judge of the High Court in 1986.

 

Justice Tang was appointed as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 1995 and as Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in April this year.
