Traffic accidents with casualties up 3.6%
*
Hong Kong Police

Traffic accidents involving casualties grew 3.6% to 11,094 in the first three quarters of the year, over the same period last year. The accidents were mainly due to tailgating, losing control, speeding, careless lane changing and negligence.

To deter motorists from irresponsible driving, Police will mount a Hong Kong-wide month-long operation from tomorrow. It will target speeding, dangerous or careless driving, drink driving and failing to wear seat belts, all of which have been identified as major causes of traffic accident casualties.

Police will track down road users who have little regard for their own safety and that of others, especially those engaged in illegal road racing.
