14 arrested for cleaning company fraud
*
ICAC

Fourteen people have been arrested for their roles in an alleged bribery case in which cleaning workers were helped in securing continuous employment, and suspected fraud in relation to the subcontracting of Food & Environmental Hygiene Department cleaning contracts.

Of them, 10 are cleaning company staff, including a managing director, two general managers, a manager, a site manager, and five foremen. Also arrested were four cleaning subcontractors.

The site manager and five foremen allegedly asked a number of cleaning workers to deduct a sum from their monthly wages in return for keeping them on.

The managing director, general managers and manager allegedly defrauded the department by concealing that the department's cleaning contracts were subcontracted to others.

It is alleged that false representations were made to purportedly show that workers employed by the subcontractors under these contracts were employees of the cleaning company.

All arrestees have been released on bail as investigations continue.
