*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested 72 people in a three-day anti-triad operation in Yuen Long.

The operation began on June 27, to curb triad gangs' sources of income and quick-cash crime in the area.

Officers from New Territories North Region, Police Tactical Unit and Yuen Long District joined forces with officers from the Immigration Department and Customs & Excise Department to raid black spots in the district where illegal activities such as sale of illicit oil, contraband cigarettes and pirated optical discs took place.

Police arrested 37 men and 35 women aged from 19 to 58 for possession of dangerous drugs and offences under Dutiable Commodities Ordinance and Copyright Ordinance.

They seized 324,420 contraband cigarettes, 1,313 copies of obscene optical discs, 2,065 litres of illicit oil, six machetes and a small quantity of ketamine. The total value of the goods is estimated at about $556,000.
