Next ID card replacement date set

*
Immigration Department

The third cycle of the Smart Identity Card replacement exercise will start September 27.

The Immigration Department says the application period for specific age groups will be:

* holders born in 1956 or 57 - September 27 to November 27;

* holders born in 1954 or 55 - November 29 to January 22; and,

* holders born in 1952 or 53 - January 24 to March 12.

An order announcing details of the exercise has been issued by the Secretary for Security, and it is subject to normal negative vetting procedures in the Legislative Council.

The order also offers certain cross-boundary drivers an option, from September 27, to apply for new ID cards before or within the periods specified for their age groups. This will enable them to enjoy the convenience of the automated vehicle (driver) clearance system to be implemented at vehicular control points in phases by end of the year.

Details of the application procedures will be announced in July. For more information, click here, or call the department hotline 2824 6111.
