$9.5m in cannabis seized
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have seized 112 kilograms of cannabis worth about $9.5 million off Lantau Island.

Shortly after midnight, a Police launch stopped a suspicious motorised sampan off Ma Wan.

Two men onboard threw two carton boxes into the sea before fleeing towards Penny's Bay.

The two abandoned boxes were later recovered, and a subsequent search in the vicinity led to the discovery of one more abandoned box.

A total of 112 one-kilogram packets of suspected cannabis were found in the boxes.

Investigations by Narcotics Bureau are continuing.
