Salmonella warning issued on tahini
*
Centre for Food Safety

The Centre for Food Safety appeals to the trade to stop selling a batch of MaraNatha brand Organic Raw Sesame Tahini, No Salt, suspected to be contaminated with salmonella. People who have purchased the product are warned not eat it.

The affected products come in 340g packages. They are US products and sold in jars stamped with a code "UPC 0 51651 09327 9" and "Use By date 07/27/07".

The warning comes after Canadian authorities alerted consumers not to eat the products in question. The centre will contact relevant authorities for further information.

The centre has alerted the trade and local distributors, and is closely monitoring the situation.

Salmonella is a pathogen that may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
